Description:

NiSi's 2007 National Guard Leadership & Equipment Directory is a unique publication that provides comprehensive information about the National Guard's structure, leadership, and equipment. Featuring information captured almost entirely from open sources online, this book is a valuable tool for anyone interested in today's citizen-soldiers.

Within the 268-page book, we profile every major system in the Army and Air National Guard, including "after-market" modernization equipment and electronics. Additionally, because of their importance to the overall organization, we provide full biographies on every National Guard general officer currently serving today - both air and army. No other publication brings all of this information together in one complete package.

If you have an interest in the National Guard, either as a branch of the service, or as a potential market, you need to download this important book. It's free, and available here.

For more information on the book, read "Google vs. James Bond", and see the Table of Contents section below.

Introduction: "Google vs. James Bond"

Growing up in the seventies and eighties, I was always interested in the secret world of intelligence, espionage, and technology. With super spies like James Bond permeating popular culture during the Cold War, what red-blooded American boy wouldn’t be enticed by the fast cars, gadgets, and pretty girls brought to life in those fantastic films? Later, however, Bond became something of a silly caricature of Ian Fleming’s original secret agent, and my interests migrated to the Jack Ryan and John Clark characters found in Tom Clancy’s novels. To this day, Cardinal of the Kremlin and Patriot Games remain two of my favorite books due to the simple fact that their characters are more tangible, more real, than those found in most movies and television shows. Through books like these, and my own experiences later in life, I learned that computers and modern research techniques were significantly more important to intelligence professionals than exploding wristwatches and submersible cars. Sorry Q.

This book is a testament to the incredible changes that technology, particularly the Internet, has brought to the world of intelligence. In no uncertain terms, every Jack Ryan-wannabe (myself included) with a computer and high-speed modem can obtain much of the same information that governments use to spend millions of dollars to collect. On one level, the Leadership and Equipment Guide is meant to demonstrate that very clearly.

With the exception of three photographs, and a few short paragraphs, all of the material in this book was obtained through open sources online. Everything. Every picture, profile, biography, and weapon description. Fifteen years ago, collecting this information would have taken a thousand man-hours and several months to publish. Today, the collection and editing took a few weeks, and using commercially available page layout software, production is much easier than what it use to be. Additionally, using the web and email, we can now use printers overseas to publish the print edition for one-third of what it takes to print here in the United States. None of this would be possible without the web. It really has changed to world.

The Leadership & Equipment Guide provides a complete picture of the men and women who lead the National Guard in all fifty-four states and territories. It also serves as a quick reference for those interested in the National Guard’s equipment, structure, and modernization priorities.

It should be noted that we did not select most of the equipment described herein. With the exception of the major systems (aircraft and vehicles), the electronics, avionics, and soldier equipment highlighted here have been drawn from the Army and Air National Guard’s “Top 25” procurement priorities – a list obtained, as you might expect, through open sources.

All of descriptions provided come from copyright free content found online. As such, we have chosen to waive our own copyright for this publication, and will provide it as a free download via our website at www.northupinfo.com. Once the print edition is published, it will also be given away, provided recipients agree to pay for the shipping and handling of the book.

Publications like these will become the norm in the years ahead. With blogs, user modified online encyclopedias, digital video, and other new media, publishers will become aggregators of dynamic content, and the web, desktop publishing, and cost effective printing techniques will make anyone willing to work at it, an intelligence agency unto themselves. Watch out Jack Ryan Google is watching.
